Briggs & Stratton Craftsman Riding Mower Recall - Latest Info
The Briggs & Stratton Power Products Group, LLC recently announced the voluntary recall of its Craftsman riding mowers, due to a fault with this product that could potentially lead to the injury of the riding lawn mower operator or a bystander. This recall is understood to affect around 500 Craftsman riding mowers, which were distributed through Sears stores across the United States between February 2010 and May 2010, priced at around $1,400. This voluntary recall was issued in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and consumers and distributors are reminded that it is an offense to resell or even attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
This recall was issued following the discovery that some of these riding lawn mowers were released for distribution despite the fact that the side discharge chute of the mower was incorrectly attached to the mower, which creates the possibility of bolts being forcefully discharged from the mower, which in turn create a serious hazard of injury to the operator of the mower or a bystander. Although no reports of serious injuries have been attributed to this fault to date, one report has been received of a bolt being discharged from the mower and breaking a window.
The model number of the Craftsman riding mowers affected by this recall is 107.28034, and the serial number of the mowers affected by this recall are 2014033403 through 2014034552, 2014082112 through 2014082861, 2014149995 through 2014151266, and 2014346290 through 2014346803. The model and serial number of the mowers may be found at the back of the mower, printed onto a clearly visible data tag. Consumer in possession of Craftsman riding mowers affected by this recall are requested to discontinue use of this product immediately and to contact Sears on (800) 859-7026 in order to arrange for an inspection of their mower, which will be repaired if necessary. All inspections and repairs associated with this problem will be carried out free of charge.
