Nissan Recall - Altima, Frontier, Pathfinder, Xterra, Versa, Rogue and Sentra Affected
Nissan North America, Inc. has become the latest auto manufacturer to issue a recall related to problems associated with the Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation systems fitted to some of its vehicles. The problem lies with a fault in the battery of the GPS system which may create a fire hazard, although no serious damage or injuries have been attributed to this fault to date. The recall announcement issued by Nissan affects the following models, manufactured between 2008 and 2010, that were fitted with the Garmin NUVI GPS navigation systems – the Altima, Frontier, Pathfinder, Xterra, Versa, Rogue and Sentra.
The Garmin NUVI GPS Navigation systems were factory fitted to many automobiles distributed in the US, and other major auto manufacturers have also issued recalls associated with this same problem. The problem is said to affect the following models of Garmin GPS navigation systems - the NUVI 750, the NUVI 760 and the NUVI 765. It is understood that the fault lies in the battery of the GPS systems, which were supplied to Garmin by a third party manufacturer, which has been reported to cause overheating problems, which in turn creates a fire hazard. Owners of vehicles that are affected by this recall are requested to contact their local Nissan dealer who will arrange to have the fault rectified by a Garmin technician, or they may contact Garmin directly regarding the issue.
