GM Recall - Chevrolet Colorad, GMC Canyon And Isuzu Affected

General Motors Corp. recently announced a vehicle recall that includes the Chevrolet Colorad and GMC Canyon manufactured during 2004 through 2011, the Isuzu I-2880 and I-350 manufactured in 2006, and the Isuzu I-290 and I-370 manufactured in 2007 and 2008. The number of units affected could be as high as 192,676.

The reason for the recall is these units do not adhere to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard #225 relating to “Child Restraint Anchorage Systems.” Specifically, the above anchor tether in the front middle seat is not reachable, and furthermore, the instruction booklet does not have instructions on how to properly employ the top tether.

General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration both advise not putting children in the front seat in any of these units. To remedy this, GM says local dealers will cut an opening in the back panel cover to permit accessibility to the above anchor tether of the front middle seat.

GM also plans to publish additional information pertaining to the proper use of child restraint seats to be included in the owner’s manual.
