Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) Launches New Service To Send Kindle Books As Gifts

Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) recently announced a new service that gives their customers the ability to send Kindle books as presents to anybody with an email address. Kindle books will work on all Kindle devices and also can be read on a variety of Kindle applications linked to the iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, Mac products, all PCs, and on Blackberry and Android devices.

“We are thrilled to make it easier than ever for our customers to give their favorite Kindle book to a friend or family member as a gift,” said Russ Grandinetti, Vice President, Amazon Kindle. “We’re making this functionality available in time for the holidays to offer an easy, stress free holiday shopping option for anyone - not just Kindle owners.”

Amazon.com customers can gift a Kindle book by selecting a book in the Kindle store database, choose the “give as a Gift” option, and forward their gift to any person with an email address. The recipient is immediately notified by email and then obtains the book in the online Kindle store.

The Kindle store in the U.S. boasts in excess of 725,000 books everything from New York Times bestsellers to new releases starting at $9.99. Kindle books are always backed up online so the book owner can always download it no matter where they are located.
