Top Mortgage Lenders - Mortgage Company Rankings Just Released

Mortgage Daily recently released their Mortgage Lender Rankings for the third quarter of this year, ranking mortgage lenders across the United States in terms of both the number of mortgage loans originated and the number of mortgage loans serviced. According to the latest Mortgage Lender Rankings, the biggest mortgage lender in the United States in terms of the number of mortgage loans originated in the third quarter of this year is Wells Fargo & Co., of San Francisco, California, whilst the biggest mortgage lender in the United States in terms of the number of mortgage loans serviced is the Bank of America Corp.

For the purposes of ranking US mortgage lenders in the Mortgage Lender Rankings, Mortgage Daily defines mortgage originations as transactions where the purchase of a home is financed by a lender, or where an existing mortgage is refinanced by a lender, during the relevant quarter. The number of mortgages serviced by a lender is defined as the number of mortgage loans serviced by the lender, including all mortgage loans that were originated in prior quarters.

The report also highlighted the fact that although the number of mortgages originated in the third quarter of this year was significantly higher than the number of mortgages originated in the previous quarter, it was still around 37 percent lower than the number of mortgage loan originations recorded in the same period of last year.
