Motorized Awnings Recall - Latest Info

Somfy Systems Inc., of Dayton, New Jersey and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced together a recall of 4600 motorized awnings because the awnings power cable was prone to severing while opening or closing the unit by hand, thus creating a risk of electric shock. To date, no injuries have been reported.

The awning motor heads are silver and black in color and “Somfy” is printed on the head. The model numbers involved in this recall are 525A2, 535A2 and 550R2. Any motor heads that are all black in color are not included in this recall.

Purchasers of these products should immediately stop using the awnings’ manual crank and make sure the circuit breaker to the motor is unplugged. Purchasers should then contact Somfy Systems to arrange for a free installation of a new awning motor.

These units were sold throughout the nation from December 2009 until September 2010 and were manufactured in France.
