Winnebago Vista and Itasca Sunstar Recall
Winnebago Industries, Inc. recently announced a recall of their 2011 ‘Vista’ and ‘Itasca Sunstar’ motor homes, due to a potential hazard associated with the electrical system of the motor homes. Although only 99 motor homes are affected by this problem, Winnebago Industries is treating this issue as a very serious one, due to the potentially serious hazards posed to users due to this problem. Winnebago Industries have requested all customers of the affected motor homes (2011 Itasca Sunstar and 2011 Vista motor homes built between March 16 2010 and August 12 2010) to contact a dealer to have to problem sorted out, free of charge.
The recall has been announced due to the discovery that it is possible for a cable (the cable through which power is supplied to the slideout room) to make contact with the driveshaft during normal operation. This contact between the electric cable and the driveshaft could result in the cable insulator becoming damaged and the cable core making direct contact with the chassis, which could electrify the chassis and potentially cause severe or fatal injuries to anyone who was to make contact with the electrified chassis. The proposed solution to the problem is the isolation of the driveshaft and the wire harness of the motor home using a closeout panel.
