Weight Loss Plan - Study Reveals Body Monitoring Systems Double Weight Loss

The results of a six-month study which aimed to establish and evaluate the efficacy of the wearable body monitoring systems developed by BodyMedia, Inc. at achieving weight loss when used in conjunction with lifestyle intervention (behavior support) were presented at the 28th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Obesity Society held in San Diego.

This independent study was conducted by John Jakicic, Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh’s Physical Activity and Weight Management Research Center, and the results of the study indicated that overweight or obese individuals who used the BodyMedia FIT (a wearable body monitoring system) in conjunction with lifestyle intervention lost an average of 18 pounds over six months, which is roughly double the weight loss achieved by a similar group of overweight or obese individuals who only used lifestyle intervention over the same period.

Commenting on the results of the study, Dr. Jakicic issued the following statement: “The six month outcomes of this study illustrate the success of the combination of a body monitoring device and a lifestyle intervention program. It’s important that the weight loss community is aware of the successful results that body monitoring devices alone and in concert with a lifestyle intervention program can yield.”
